Access to nutritious food is essential for growth, health, and dignity. Kimara Community Development strengthens food security by supporting vulnerable families, improving maternal and child nutrition, and producing nutrient-rich foods through sustainable poultry farming—so no one is left hungry or malnourished.

Why Food & Nutrition (and Why Now)

Hunger and malnutrition continue to affect children, pregnant women, the elderly, and families living in poverty—especially in rural communities. Poor nutrition weakens immunity, affects child development, and increases preventable illness. Kimara Community Development addresses these challenges through food access, nutrition education, and sustainable food production, working closely with health facilities and communities.

The Challenge We're Addressing

Food insecurity in the communities we serve often includes:

  • Elderly and vulnerable people unable to farm or buy food
  • Pregnant women and children lacking access to protein-rich diets
  • Families affected by nodding syndrome who struggle to meet basic nutritional needs
  • Limited knowledge of balanced nutrition, especially for mothers and caregivers

Without intervention, these challenges lead to chronic malnutrition, poor health outcomes, and deepening poverty cycles.

Our Approach: 4 Ways We Improve Food & Nutrition

1) Food Bank & Emergency Food Support

Kimara operates a food bank to support elderly and highly vulnerable households who cannot farm and cannot afford food. We also provide food assistance to families deeply affected by nodding syndrome, ensuring they receive essential nutrition during times of crisis.

What your support can provide:

  • Staple food distribution to vulnerable households
  • Emergency nutrition assistance for families in crisis
  • Dignity and relief for those with no other safety net

2) Maternal & Child Nutrition Support

KCD provides nutritious food support to pregnant women and children who cannot afford balanced diets. This includes targeted support for families with malnourished children and those at higher health risk.

We also run monthly nutrition training sessions for pregnant mothers, helping them understand balanced diets using locally available foods.

3) Poultry Farming for Sustainable Nutrition (Eggs for Health)

To increase access to affordable protein, Kimara runs a poultry keeping program that produces eggs for nutrition support. Eggs are distributed to children and pregnant mothers to help boost nutritional intake—especially protein and essential micronutrients.

This approach not only improves nutrition but also creates local jobs and strengthens long-term food sustainability.

4) Nutrition Education & Community Training

Education is key to lasting impact. KCD conducts monthly community nutrition education programs, helping families understand food balance, child feeding practices, and maternal nutrition—aligned with health facility guidance.
